Nipple piercing became popular in the West as far back as the 14th century when the fashionable dresses, among the upper classes, of the time often were so low cut that the nipples were exposed. There is even mention in the fashion wirtings of the 19th century of female nipple piercing and Victorian doctors recommended nipple piercing to make breastfeeding easier. Nipple piercing can increase sensitivity, size and can hold inverted nipples out.
Nipples can be pierced both vertically and horizontally a number of times. Male nipples can be initially fitted with either a barbell, ball closure ring or a circular barbell. We do, however, recommend initially fitting female nipples with a barbell as this will sit much more comfortably during the healing process. The vertical nipple piercing is always pierced with a barbell as a ball closure ring would not hang properly. Once healed, there is a huge choice of jewellery that can be worn in a nipple piercing including different materials, jewels and nipple sheilds.
Healing time is on average 10-12 weeks.
